This is a question I read and responded to in a social media group this morning. I thought I would share my response here and elaborate more on the subject because I believe so many could benefit since we all struggle with believability, especially when trying to make positive changes in our lives.
How do you make something a belief?
Your thoughts form your beliefs and your beliefs are what create your reality. It all starts by being aware of your thoughts. ALL of them. From what you’re thinking to yourself in the shower, while you’re driving, when you do something you don’t want to do like wake up late or miss a deadline, to what you say to yourself out loud even when you think you’re just joking. It all matters and it all gets absorbed into your unconscious mind. You’re reticular activating system (RAS) in the brain then takes those thoughts and beliefs and begins matching up the outside world with the picture you painted on the inside. We’ve all experienced this. For example, you buy a red car and then all of a sudden all you see on the road are red cars. Know what I’m talking about? Or when you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant and everywhere you look you see a pregnant woman. So be careful what you think and say to yourself. When thoughts and beliefs about not being happy or worries of your financial troubles are what you are planting into your mind on a regular basis, your RAS will seek out things in your life to match up with that belief. That’s what the RAS does, it’s its only function.
I first learned about the RAS when I read John Assaraf’s book, The Answer, back in 2008. To this day it is still one of my favorite books and I refer to it often. Some years later I learned of an extraordinary woman named Dana Wilde. She had a program called Train Your Brain. I listened to her free introductory training and immediately felt connected to her and her message. I bought her program and have since purchased may of her products and trainings, including her new book, Train Your Brain: How to Build a Million Dollar Business in Record Time. I had found someone so down to earth who had a true gift for explaining the way our brains work when it comes to forming beliefs and the powerful effects of our thoughts, particularly our self-talk. I began applying her techniques to every aspect of my life and was able to turn everything in my life around–my career, finances, health, and relationships.
I learned that our beliefs play a huge role in how we view your own lives. Our ideas and preconceptions of what we think we can and can’t accomplish in life are a direct result of our beliefs—beliefs about ourselves, about the world around us, and about the situations we encounter. Those beliefs and our interpretations of the world around us are based on our observations and are often times tied to an emotion or emotional experience of some kind. And once formed, our beliefs are what we live by and know to be true about ourselves. In our minds they become facts.
So, how do we form new beliefs that serve us and change the ones that don’t? By training our brains to be aware of our everyday thoughts and turning negative thoughts around using “perfect language” or “transitory statements” to plant new beliefs in our unconscious that our RAS will work to match up for us in our reality. These are techniques I learned from Dana in her Train Your Brain program. She goes over them in her free training. Check it out and let me know what you think.
